For adult patients who require expansion or have airway-related concerns, Dr. Austin offers MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion). This advanced approach allows for non-surgical expansion of the upper jaw by using small temporary anchorage devices to gently separate and widen the palate.

Meet Dr. Steven M. Austin

Dr. Steven M. Austin is a 1990 honor graduate of Appalachian State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Chemistry. He received his dental and orthodontic degrees from the University of North Carolina’s School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill in 1994 and 1999, respectively. Dr. Austin is board certified from the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Austin has been practicing orthodontics exclusively since 1999. He is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the NC Association of Orthodontists, the Gaston Dental Society, and the Occlusal Concepts Study Club.
